San Jose

San José is a small coastal township located in the province of Almeria in the south east corner of the Iberian Peninsula. Located around a petite sheltered bay on the south end of Cabo de Gata, the town has become increasingly popular as a tourist destination. The traditional way of life and the beautiful natural surroundings of the town have proved attractive to visitors all over the world.

The main street in San José is Calle Correo which is home to several shops and restaurants, as well as a large natural park. There is plenty in the way of accommodation in this little town, with a youth hostel, a camp site and several conventional hotels.

San José offers visitors plenty of sites and activities, including horse riding, boating, windsurfing, bike riding and tours of the area. There are several nice beaches in the vicinity, including the Playa de los Genoveses which is good for swimming with clear and shallow waters. The Playa de Monsul is located approximately 2.5 kilometres away, and features volcanic rocks and soft grey sand.
