Christmas In Costa Calida

Christmas is celebrated in Costa Calida, although it is not Santa Claus who brings the much anticipated presents to good little children in Spain. Instead it is the Los Reyes Magos, or the Three Kings who bestow gifts upon all the well behaved kids, and it is a little bit later than our traditional December Christmas.

In Costa Calida, children start writing letters to the three kings in December asking for the presents that they want. Much like our Christmas Day, the Three Kings arrive on the sixth of January in the wee hours of the morning to deliver their fare to the children.

According to the bible, the Three Kings travelled far and wide to find the baby Jesus and give him gifts of gold. On the fifth of January most Spanish towns have a large parade depicting the kings and their entourage with colourful and vibrant floats.
